Internal Spline Broaching

Internal spline broaching is a high-precision machining process that uses a multi-tooth tool — the broach — to cut internal spline profiles in a single pass. Each successive tooth removes a predetermined amount of material, progressively forming the final spline geometry in one stroke rather than multiple operations.
We broach internal splines, keyways, and custom profiles in 45#, 20# carbon steels, 40Cr, 35CrMo, 20CrMnTi alloy steels, 6061/6063 aluminum alloys, 304 stainless steel, and brass — with spline accuracy of ±0.01mm and pitch error ≤0.015mm. Diameter range Φ5–100mm. IATF 16949-certified.

Broaching completes roughing, semi-finishing, and finishing in one stroke. Progressive tooth geometry removes material incrementally - faster than milling or shaping, with consistent tooth form and surface finish.

Spline accuracy ±0.01mm

The rigid machine structure and controlled cutting motion deliver accurate tooth form, depth, and spacing, ensuring uniform load distribution across the spline. Pitch error held to ≤0.015mm.

Multiple profile capability

Blind-hole broaching expertise

Why Internal Spline Broaching

 

For internal splines and keyways, other methods have limitations:

Milling – unsuitable for internal features where the tool cannot access the bore

EDM – slow, costly, and not practical for production volumes

Rotary broaching – limited to small diameters and shallow depths (~1.5× diameter)

 

Internal spline broaching delivers the productive middle ground - faster than EDM or shaping, more accurate than rotary broaching, and capable of producing consistent internal spline geometry across high-volume runs. For differential gears, hubs, couplings, and keyways - internal spline broaching is the production method.
